The
aim of the Support for Learning department is to allow every child the
opportunity to achieve their potential.
The role
of the department is to provide support and extra help in all areas of the
curriculum, for those pupils who require it. The
key process involved in supporting pupils' learning include early
identification of pupils with difficulties through effective communication
with associated primaries and parents, promoting partnerships with parents,
involving pupils in their own learning, effectively involving external
agencies, planning and delivering appropriate support strategies and
involving all staff in the process of supporting needs.
The department has a
Learning Centre to cater for pupils with specialised additional support
needs. The Support for Learning Centre provides a variety of
learning experiences for identified pupils. In S3/4 we offer National
Qualification Courses at Access 1 / 2 levels in Mathematics, English,
Personal and Social Development, Home Economics, ASDAN and ICT for pupils
who have been identified as needing this kind of provision as an alternative
to Standard Grade. We also teach practical life skills and encourage
involvement in the community in addition to preparing pupils for post-school
provision.
Support
is also provided throughout the school, with Support for Learning Teachers
and Support for Learning Assistants working alongside the class teacher.
However, there are times when individual tutorial help be needed and
this is provided as and when judged to be necessary. We assist in SQA
examinations, providing special arrangements for students with additional
support needs.
Parents are welcome to contact us at any time to discuss how best to meet
the needs of their children.
