BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

WHY  YOU  SHOULD  STUDY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Business and enterprise are at the heart of national growth and development and this is reflected in the important role that business education plays in the curriculum.  The provision of business education offers opportunities for individuals to develop the crucial skills and knowledge which allows them to access, understand and contribute to the dynamic and complex business and information environment.  Whatever the career pathway or progression route, business education can provide a valuable experience to enhance individual effectiveness.

The following courses will be on offer:

Business Management   Intermediate 2           Higher

In School, the 2-year course leads into Intermediate 2, Higher or Higher Still Business Management courses or Units.

THE  SUBJECT  SKILLS

Pupils learn how to record accounting transactions and how to prepare, present and analyse financial statements, at both a business and a personal level.

The course highlights the use of technology in processing, analysing and interpreting accounting information and so pupils will have access to personal computers.  However, the course still lays emphasis on memorised procedures and the mechanical book-keeping aspects of the subject.

In addition, pupils in S4 will undertake a project, which requires them to apply knowledge and skills to process accounting information on a computer, as well as on paper.

Course Elements:

  • Knowledge and Understanding – learn about and show understanding of the course content.

  • Handling Information – prepare the relevant account, using the correct layout.

  • Practical Abilities – complete a project at the relevant level.

THE  CONTENT  OF  THE  COURSE

The course covers the accounts of individuals; clubs and businesses.

This course introduces boys and girls to the main types of businesses and not-for-profit organisations.  The course looks at the main sources of finance and their accounting procedures.
