S1 / S2 Course
Geography
is the study of people and the environment in which they live.
Our S1 / S2 course helps pupils to develop an awareness
of the world around them at local, regional and world scales.
Skills
Geography
provides a good opportunity to improve on literacy and numeracy skills while
fostering an interest in the world around us and our place in the world. We encourage pupils to practice and learn subject
specific skills such as using Atlases and Ordnance Survey maps, interpreting
photographs, drawing graphs and diagrams.
We provide opportunities for pupils to understand why
and how other people live in environments different to ours, how change
affects us, why and how we are similar to others in different parts
of the world.
We practice evaluating – that is using knowledge to work
out answers and explain them. Pupils are encouraged to develop independent
working.
There are opportunities to use ICT built into the course
in every block. Pupils are encouraged to develop and use ICT skills. These
skills are useful when pupils do enquiry work, either in class or for
homework.
The Course
This is taught in 4 blocks over the two years of S1 and
S2 – 2 blocks per year.

quality of work, homework. Formal assessment takes place at the end of each
